Milestones are markers on a roadside which indicate the right direction and distance to the next marker so that the traveller can measure where s/he is along the way: thus they serve as a significant frame of reference. They give reassurance and security and affirm that s/he is on the right path. As human beings we are all travellers on our own personal journey through life and doing our best to navigate the route.
